So, like, I am probably the biggest ditz evah. Can you, my fellow writers, please tell me when our next meeting is?

Heh, heh...

And if you can think of an awesome topic for us to blog on, please do so.

Thanks a million, folks. (>.>);

Just a heads up [Oct. 31st, 2008|11:36 pm]

National Novel Writing Month starts tonight at midnight.

It's never too late to sign up, in 2004 I started a week late and still finished in time for the deadline.

Good luck, if you decide to tackle it. I'm VMisery over on the website, too, if you want to add me as a writing friend :)

Lilith Saintcrow on Skill versus Talent

I'll post my thoughts on it a little later tonight, but it's a good read.

Glad to see people coming into the community!

Just as a heads-up...Livejournal's messaging is screwy, and I have not been getting notifications of people wanting to join. I'll make sure to check often to see if any outstanding requests are listed, but in case it doesn't go through, you can email me at zmjett at cox dot net and I'll add you to the community ASAP.

Cheers!

You probably all know about this thing, but I just stumbled upon it.  It's called The Gender Genie and, using a specific algorithm, it will determine (guess?  O_o) the gender of an author based on a sample of his/her writing.

I thought it was cool, just for fun, and actually useful in some situations, especially when trying to write from the POV of, or about a, character of the opposite gender.  For me, anyway, it kind of helps to keep my girly tendencies in check when my story is supposed to be male centered.  My main complaint with the "genie" though is that it is skewed depending on the use of first-person or third-person pronouns, so... grain of salt.

I thought it was neat to have it guess my fiction writing and my nonfiction writing.  All of my fiction writing, even though some things cut it close, was guessed to be female, and all of my nonfiction work (school papers, etc.) was guessed as male-- so immediately the Angry Feminist in me thinks, "Hmmm, maybe that's why that paper got such a good grade-- BECAUSE IT READ LIKE A MAN'S WORK!!!!1111!! GRR."

*ahem*

But, yeah, check it out if you care, and my apologies if you're not interested or have already seen it!

Ooh, double post, uh-oh (I was going to say double entry, as that's more accurate, but that's just filthy...)

Since this is designed for us to talk to one another, I had a few questions I wanted to pose.  Not looking, really, for advice, just to discuss maybe?

Okay, this is how we do it. [Oct. 13th, 2007|01:26 am]

Since mostly everyone who's coming is here, now's a good time to explain how this whole crazy thing works.

I've locked the community so that only people I let in can join the community. Membership will be limited to people from our little elite clique, unless someone comes up with a compelling reason to allow others, but no one will be green-lit unless we know them.

I've sent out invitations so our stragglers, suzyq4238 and jeanne_bird, can formally join up. You have to be a member of the community to get in to see the good stuff, it's what keeps the whole thing private.

If you want to post a bit of writing or something that you want only us to see, when you post the entry, down at the bottom you see an option that says, "Show this entry to..." Choose "friends", and your entry can only be viewed by members of the community who are logged in.

Yes, that means you should probably log in when you come here, otherwise you won't see anything except open posts like this one.

More (hopefully) useful info, tips, and links forthcoming soon!

NaNoWriMo [Oct. 11th, 2007|03:53 pm]

Just wanted to give people a heads-up that NaNoWriMo will be starting soon. It runs from November 1 to November 30 and the basic concept of it is...

National Novel-Writing Month: Write 50,000 words in a month. That works out to about 1,666 words a day or so. I've done it for a few years now, though this year I don't think I will be doing it...it's always been a hell of a ride, to say the least.

It's one of those things I think every writer should try once, because it's about silencing the inner critic for a month. The whole idea is to just let all your ideas out, forget about "is it good?" and just write.

Anyway, I thought I'd give you guys a heads-up in case any of you might be interested. Cheers~

Will be fine-tuning things as I go, to get everything set up, and adjust the color schemes and settings, but for now just touching base.
